Only God can strengthen believers to survive temptation. This is shown by Jesus's interaction with the disciples in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus encouraged His disciples to pray as a means to stay out of temptation. Therefore, it is vital for believers to pray because they need God’s strength to survive temptation. This is also seen in the way believers are united to Christ through prayer. Believers suffering and temptation bring them nearer to Christ.
