Why Read the 10 Commandments

The Ones by God, yes but Kevin DeYoung’s book on them

On Saturday evening, November 21st, you are invited to discuss a book about the Ten Commandments called The 10 Commandments by Kevin DeYoung. This is part of our ongoing Church Reads series. This fall is our last edition of the year.

Here are 10 Reasons why you should take the challenge to do this last Church Reads of the year:
10. Because it’ll give you something to talk about at Thanksgiving.
9. Because it’ll help you understand why you get traffic violations.
8. Because they have been the basis of much of Western Law.
7. Because they have been confused and ignored by many.
6. Because historically, they have been central to the Church’s teaching along with the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostles’ Creed.
5. Because they’re important to understanding the last half of Exodus through Deuteronomy and really the rest of the Old Testament.
4. Because without them, the ethics of the New Testament are harder to comprehend.
3. Because you will know God better.
2. Because EVERYONE at ASCC is doing it!
  1. Because the Ten Words (as they’re called) ultimately point us to Jesus, who kept every commandment and made obedience to God’s Law possible and joyful because of his righteousness.
